Hiking trails
Hiking is big in the Poconos! The Appalachian Trail runs South East from us, not too far if you want to experience a legendary trail. In less than 1 hour you can be in the Delaware Water Gap National park, and if you enjoy Jazz, you should plan your hike to end up at Deer Head Inn, the oldest continuously operated Jazz club in the USA.
Staying closer to Lake Ariel, a place you can’t miss is Lacawac Sanctuary, only a 15 minute drive from Tall Hill Lake House. Situated on Lake Wallenpaupack, it’s a place to explore and regain your connection with nature. Trails abound, for all levels of difficulty, and the sceneries and wildlife are exceptional. Check their Facebook page, they have plenty of interesting events.
At Varden Conservation Area, only 10 minutes from us, you can venture out in your snowshoes or for cross-country skiing in the Winter, and for memorable hikes the other 3 seasons. Note: the access road is not maintained during the winter as of December 2022, so you are on your own to find parking and get to the trails.
In less than 15 min on the way to Hawley, Shuman Point is a hiking trail on Lake WallenPaupak, about 3 miles of a moderate loop that gives beautiful views of the lake.
In the Winter, there’s nothing better than coming home to Tall Hill Lake House after a nice hike out, hang the skis or the snowshoes, and enjoy a drink in front of the fire. For the Summer, after a swim in the Lake, a cold drink in the back patio will do.
